A teacher is entrusted with society’s most important resource – children.  I have chosen to be responsible for educating those children.  This is a challenge I look forward to everyday.  The world of education is constantly evolving.  It is my responsibility as an educator to keep up with the changes in order to provide my students with the greatest educational opportunities.  With the knowledge I have gained in this program, I hope to do that.
Each child is an individual that learns at his/her own pace.  Today’s students are looking to interact with technology.  From the moment they wake up, they are bombarded by the latest and greatest technological inventions.  “What parents, teachers, and policy makers really need to know about education in the digital age, though, is not about computers and video games themselves.  It is about learning, and how new technologies make new kinds of learning possible” (Shaffer, 2006).  We all have to think about learning in a new way.  Technology is one way to provide similar learning experiences for all students while still allowing for differentiation for various types of learners.  Teachers have to find creative ways to help students use problem solving skills.  Incorporating technology is a great way to let students take the reigns and teach the class or practice troubleshooting when something goes wrong.  It is my hope to incorporate my curriculum and technology to create meaningful learning experiences for the students.  “Teachers need to know how to select and use technology tools that support meaningful learning to navigate a path to deeper student understanding” (Ashburn & Floden, 2006).  I believe it’s important to use technology daily. For example, including word processing as a regular event during class, creating webquests related to content and encourage students to create webquests as well, also having students be responsible for their own learning is very important to me.  I have my own website and request that students access it daily.  This allows them a home base to check and update all of their class work.
It is my future goal to become a technology teacher in my district.  I am extremely interested in working with the technology team to create a school culture that believes and respects the excitement technology can bring to schools.  With the skills that I have learned in the TIE program, I hope to increase professional development regarding effective technology use in my district.  “Teachers are central to improving student learning” (Ashburn & Floden, 2006).  It is my hope that I can help teachers make those improvements.
